With the internet, low cost game engines and other technology platforms, digital stores for distribution and social media for marketing, the business landscape and value chain or cost structure for indie creators has changed massively. Some folks see it and are taking advantage, like Dani or Jonas Tyroller by using social media marketing and content creation and some folks will be left behind.
