In this video Matt from Thousand Ant talks about how WHAT you make is more important than how you make it, and how if the only reason you're making a game is "it's my dream game" you might be setting off to build something that nobody but you wants.

This may be unpopular advice as very few people get into indie game development because they love market research, but let's talk about it ;)
